Vincent YUEN MSc in Construction and Real Estate, PgDMS, CEng, MICE, MHKIE (BUD, CVL), RPE, MHKIPM, MAIPM, MHKIVM Vincent is a Project Director of Dragages Hong Kong Limited with 26 years of experience in project management, real estate development and construction management. He is now working in a company which is recognized as the pioneer to bring new construction techniques into Hong Kong with efforts on delivering innovative solutions in design, engineering, finance, operation and long-term maintenance. Abstract In today¡¦s project development context, clients often have a strong wish to have projects completed in an unreasonably short time frame. In order to fulfill the client¡¦s desire in a climate of fierce market competition, the contractor needs to utilize innovative solutions to complete their 'mission impossible'. Mr. Vincent Yuen will discuss the following aspects in this seminar by sharing with us a successful example - the construction of the Venetian Resort East Podium Parcel One superstructure in Macao. Learning from Portland and Shanghai - 2 Case Studies Join us in welcoming visiting speakers: Douglas Benson & Albert Chan ¡E ¡§Walking the Walk: Greening Your Component¡¨ A Presentation of the Portland Center for Architecture by Dogulas Benson AIA, Director of AIA NWP Region Top to bottom renovation of an existing 1880¡¦s one story (w/ basement), 5,000 sf building into the AIA Portland Center for Architecture. The resulting project creates offices for staff as well as a 100 person classroom/meeting space and gallery all with storefront exposure in a vibrant part of the city. The space has been designed and awarded a LEED Platinum rating by the USGBC. It utilizes a series of simple, off the shelf strategies to achieve energy performance that, after 18 months, is running 24% more efficient than the original design predicted. The gallery space typically attracts several hundred people to monthly openings and has increased awareness of architecture and design throughout the community. ¡E ¡§Foshan's Renaissance: Sustainable Development of a historic city core¡¨ A Presentation by Albert Chan, Director of Planning & Development, Shui On Land Mr. Albert Chan will give us an in-depth presentation of this award winning project (AIA National, Institute Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design 2009, AIA California Council Merit Award for Urban Design 2009, AIA San Francisco Chapter, Urban Design Honor Award, 2009 and AIA Hong Kong, Urban Design Merit Award 2008) designed by the Planning and Design Team comprising of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, Ben Wood Studio Shanghai and Guangzhou Urban Planning & Design Survey Research Institute. With unremitting highrise development threatening Foshan¡¦s historic city, city officials sought ways to conserve the ancient area while simultaneously creating a sustainable, modern central district able to meet the inevitable need for growth of a burgeoning city of 3.5 million. The plan is built at a density able to support a new, transit-oriented, mixed-use downtown while at the same time defraying the costs of preserving and restoring the vibrancy of the city¡¦s historic Old Town and Temple. Presentation by: Mr Manfred Junker, Head of design Join us in exploring the internationally recognized, high-end kitchen design leader Poggenpohl's new Hong Kong Showroom. We will be introduced to their newest designs and materials and will have an expert presentation by Poggenpohl's Head Designer, Mr. Manfred Junker. Manfred Junker is an interior designer and graduate engineer. He studied interior design at FH Detmold and began his career at Rosenthal AG, Selb, as an interior designer for showrooms and exhibitions. He joined Poggenpohl Möbelwerke, Herford in 1979, working as an interior designer for showrooms and exhibitions (international). In 1992 he was promoted to product development, design, showrooms and exhibitions, and in 1995 he became Head of Product Development and Design. CES 212: Evening Technical Seminar & Installation Tour

Since LED lighting is not adversely affected by frequent on/off switches, 70% of the lighting is controlled by movement sensors; a solar battery system was installed to power external lighting and to further reduce emission- producing energy consumption.
